Travelling to Barcelona
The conference will be held in a hotel located in the city center of Barcelona, which is called Plaça Catalunya. In this webpage you can find some practical information about Barcelona and how to reach the city center of Barcelona.
From the Barcelona Airport the most convenient ways of reaching Barcelona are:
By taxi (webpage): the journey takes around half an hour. The average cost is 25-20 Euros, it depends on the traffic and the hour (nights and Sundays are more expensive). There is a charge of 1€ per baggage.
By bus: maybe the most convenient way if you want to save some money. This bus is called Airbus (aka A1) and runs from directly outside all three Barcelona Airport terminals to Barcelona. It makes a stop in the Plaça Catalunya. The journey also takes around half an hour and costs 4,05€ (7€ for round trip).
By train: it may be inconvenient since it implies to change of train in Sants Estació (the main train Station of Barcelona). The RENFE train service runs every 30 mins from 6am to midnight to and from Barcelona airport. The train service (line C10) from the Airport to Sants Estació takes 20 minutes. In Sants Estació a new train has to be taken to reach Plaça Catalunya (either line C1, C3, C4 or C7). Plaça Catalunya can also be reached by subway (called metro in Catalonia) from Sants Estació. More information in the “metro” website (map of the metro of Barcelona).
Other practical information about Barcelona
Public transportation is really good and relatively cheap in Barcelona. You can reach everywhere with the combination of subway, bus and tram. You can check the travel cards webpage to find the travel card most suitable to you. The “I want to go” service of the Public Transportation Webpage helps to plan your trips around Barcelona
Despite some things you can read, Barcelona is a safe city. However, it is true that pick pocketing and bag snatching is a problem on the Ramblas, Plaça Catalunya, at rail stations, on the beaches and on the metro. Please, take care and do not leave your belongings unattended. It is the best way to avoid bad experiences.
