Accessibility
This site was jointly developed by the UPC's Communications and Promotion Service
and UPCnet
using the open-source content-management system Plone
.
The underlying commitment in the design process was to create a website that’s clear and easy-to-use for everyone. As of 28 June, we’re the first Spanish university to have obtained Technosite accessibility accreditation and Euracert certification, based on W3C accessibility guidelines for web content. The Euracert label is recognised throughout Europe.
WAI guidelines
The content of the website has been validated with Double-A certification, based on WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) recommendations. WAI is an international working group that belongs to W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), a body which seeks to ensure that no group experiences any form of access discrimination that could lead to social fractures in the virtual world.
The techniques used on the UPC site comply with WAI recommendations for XHTML 1.0 markup and CSS.
Certifications
Technosite, an ONCE Foundation company specialising in technology and disability, certifies that: An audit of the UPC’s institutional website (http://www.upc.edu) was carried out on 28 June 2010. The results of the audit confirm that the website meets the requirements for Technosite + Euracert Double-A level certification, which verifies conformity with W3C-WAI’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and the requirements established in the Spanish standard UNE 139803:2004.
To meet the WAI requirements, web standards were used to produce the pages: XHTML 1.0 for content and CSS for formatting the visual presentation.

IPv6 protocol
This website is accessible for versions 4 and 6 of the IP protocol. Version 6 of the IP protocol was developed to overcome the limitations of version 4 and incorporate changes required to greatly increase the number of IP addresses available. With the new protocol, IP addresses can be provided for the entire global population, and emerging needs associated with new technologies can be covered. The number of addresses will go from 4.3 billion, less than one for each of the world’s inhabitants, to 2128.
IP addresses of the UPC website:
- IPv4: 147.83.2.135
- IPv6: 2001:40b0:7500:0001:0000:0000:0000:0021
