The CSIC autonomous underwater vehicle is tested around to the stronglocal OBSEA
28/04/2016 - SARTI Research group of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, as a FixO3 European project member, is involved in the project upAUV with Ifremer Méditerranée and Marine Technology Unit (CSIC). This project have the objective to validate AUVs as current meters in different navigation modes, always taking moored ADCP deployed in the OBSEA as reference, and see if AUVs provide new information about coastal upwelling processes.These days is testing in Vilanova the AUV of Marine Tecnology Unity.
JericoNext Workshop took place in Vilanova
21/04/2016 - On 19 and 20 April have been made EPSEVG days of work on the European project in which participates JericoNext SARTI. SARTI acted as host organizing this conference which brought together a dozen experts in a project that revolves around the submarine cabled observatories, such as the OBSEA.Participants have been very pleased with the approach that has been given to the workshop where conclusions are drawn very satisfactory.
OBSEA is a cabled seafloor observatory located 4 km off the Vilanova i la Geltru coast in a fishing protected area. It is connected to the coast by an energy and communications mixed cable.
The main advantages of having a cabled observatory are that it provides an uninterrupted power supply to the scientific instruments and offers a high bandwidth communication link. This way, real time data is available and problems encountered in battery powered systems are avoided. The proposed solution is the implementation of an optical Ethernet network that transmits data continuously to marine sensors connected to the observatory. With OBSEA, we can perform a real time observation of multiple parameters in the marine medium.
