If we wrap around a cylinder a right-angled triangle with one side equal to the height of the cylinder, the hypotenuse will subscribe a helix. This is why helices have a constant slope and are present in spiral staircases. The orthogonal projection of a helix on a parallel plane to the axis of the cylinder is a sinusoidal curve (and on another plane… a cycloid curve).
