Education for Sustainable Development at TU Delft (+)
In 1997, DUT adopted a policy plan to introduce SD in its education. This was the start of a five year program on Education for Sustainable Development. Its aims were threefold:
- Develop and introduce a basic course on Technology and Sustainable Development for all students at DUT
- Integrate Sustainable Development in all courses where it is relevant
- Develop a specialization track for SD, that is open for all engineering students in the Msc phase.
In 2002 the program was extended with two years. In 2004 the main aims were reached. In the years after, two Msc programs were developed that especially address Sustainable Development:
- Industrial Ecology (with Leiden and Rotterdam universities)
- Sustainable Energy Technology (with Eindhoven and Twente universities of technology), In 2007, DUT celebrated its 165th anniversary. The theme was 'Sustainable Solutions, focus on Africa’. On November 1st and 2nd, there was a large conference. This lustrum year was a great stimulus for SD activities.
DUT has 2 student organizations related to SD:
In all Faculties of DUT, there are individuals or groups that are especially devoted to SD.
The group Technology Dynamics & Sustainable Development has a coordinating role.
