The UPC maintains its position among the top 300 universities in the world and as the top technical university in Spain

In the 2019 edition of the QS World University Rankings, the UPC has maintained its position among the top 300 universities in the world, in 275th place. It is again in 120th place in Europe and is the top technical university in Spain. It is also the top European university in Mathematics and Computer Science in the Leiden Ranking 2018.

The QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) evaluate universities according to six indicators divided into four areas: international outlook, teaching quality, research quality and reputation. In the 2019 edition of the QS WUR, published on 6 June, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) maintained its position among the top 300 universities in the world and was in 120th place in Europe. In Spain it is the top technical university and the seventh university overall. It is also the third university in Catalonia.

The UPC is among the top 26.9% of the 1,021 institutions analysed by QS WUR in the world. The indicators in which the UPC reaches the best scores are again faculty to student ratio, employer reputation and academic reputation.

European leader in Mathematics and Computer Science

The UPC has also maintained its position as the top European university in scientific performance in the field of Mathematics and Computer Science in the 2018 edition of the Leiden ranking, published on 16 May.

The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2018, published by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies of Leiden University in the Netherlands, evaluates the scientific performance of more than 900 universities around the world by analysing a series of bibliometric indicators grouped into two broad areas: impact (citations) and scientific collaboration (co-authoring). The indicators, which refer to the period 2013-2016 and citations received until the end of 2017, are extracted from the Web of Science database.

In addition to the general classification, the Leiden Ranking analyses the results of five main fields of science: Biomedical and Health Sciences; Life and Earth Sciences; Mathematics and Computer Science; Physical Sciences and Engineering; and Social Sciences and Humanities. In the latest edition of the ranking, the UPC maintained its position as the top European university and was 32nd in the world in scientific performance in the field of Mathematics and Computer Science.

In scientific performance in Physical Sciences and Engineering, the UPC is among the top 200 institutions in the world, in 191st place, and among the top 50 in Europe, in 47th place. In Life and Earth Sciences, the UPC is in 303rd place, and in Biomedical and Health Sciences it is in 756th place. Overall, it is in 335th place.
