Raúl García, has been always interested about nature and sustainable development and in at age 14 became active in the Environmental Movement. The oil spill from the "Mar Egeo" in 1992 in A Coruña led him to study Marine Science at the University of Vigo, studies he combined with worldwide travel, photography and environmental consultancies (especially about fishing). He feels fortunate to visiting ones of the largest natural reserves of the planet (something like 110-120) enjoying and analyzing the main problems of conservation and management, especially on fishing but focusing in other items too.

In 2002 he joined WWF to develop its Fisheries Programme, which carries both political issues (reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, reform of Regional Fisheries Bodies, called process of Kobe), and management (fish stocks in the inshore sector and reduction of catch) and markets (MSC, agreements with dealers to improve their sustainability policies). WWF Spain is very active in the fisheries international work of WWF, basically due to the special role of the Spanish fleet in the global fisheries business, leading several international strategies.
