The Department of Service and Information System Engineering (ESSI) focuses on service science, management and engineering (SSME), and information systems and information technology.

It was set up on 26 November 2009, which makes it one of the most recently established at the UPC, and was derived from the information systems group with the aim of generating teaching, research and technology transfer initiatives to introduce SSME to the UPC. The Department’s lines of research coincide with those of the Software Engineering for Information Systems Research Group (GESSI) and the Information Modelling and Processing (MPI) group.
