The Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering (EETAC) is located in the Mediterranean Technology Park on the Baix Llobregat Campus, which hosts teaching centres, research and technology centres and companies linked to the ICT and aeronautical sectors.
The School’s effort to achieve educational innovation, based on continuous assessment, group learning strategies and project-based learning, and the inclusion of a high level of experimental learning in its courses, earned it the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard award, which was renewed in 2005. The School also boasts two Vicens Vives Awards for educational excellence and the Flyer Prize. In addition, the Quality Assurance Agency for the University System in Catalonia (AQU Catalunya) recently granted the School two distinctions for quality.
The School currently has around 1300 students, 20% of whom are female, and 150 lecturers. Lectures take place in groups of 40 students, while practical lessons are taught in laboratory groups of 20. Eighty percent of undergraduate students enrolled at the School complete their studies in less than four years and find employment within two months.
The School’s modern building, which has a floor area of 10,000 square metres, holds 45-seat classrooms, laboratories with specialised electronic, communication and aeronautical equipment, and computer rooms with desktop and laptop computers that have high-speed access to the Internet or to the School's WLAN network.
Clubs, associations and cultural and sports activities are organised through Univers, the UPC’s Social Activities Service. Around the Campus, you will find a wide range of sports facilities (the Olympic Channel, tennis clubs, etc. ) and you will be able to pursue your social, leisure and cooperation interests through a variety of associations, such as IT Without Borders, ASTERix (Open Source Software Association of Castelldefels) and the Aeronautics Society.
The curriculum includes a period of practical training at one of the 200 companies with which the School has cooperative agreements, and mobility grants allow you to take part in exchange programmes with Spanish and foreign universities for a semester or an academic year. Twenty-five percent of graduates from the School have taken advantage of these exchange programmes. The increasing internationalisation of teaching due to the incorporation of foreign students means that many activities of the School are conducted in English.
