Vilanova i la Geltrú School of Engineering
Engineering courses have been taught in Vilanova i la Geltrú for over a century. In fact, the first vocational school in the city, the precursor of the current Vilanova i la Geltrú School of Engineering (EPSEVG), was founded even before the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. BarcelonaTech (UPC). During its 100-years history, the School has evolved in tandem with the field of engineering.

It was the first public university school in Catalonia to teach the diploma in Telecommunications, and more recently, it has led the way in introducing the bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and Product Development. In addition, its students have the opportunity to acquire valuable practical experience at leading companies in the engineering sector, where they carry out paid work placements to round off their education.

In February 2008, the School incorporated the European Project Semester (EPS) into its courses. The EPS is a project-based learning system, which, in keeping with the European Higher Education Area, gives students the opportunity to study in English alongside students of other nationalities. The programme was so well received that the first edition of the International Design Project Semester (IDPS), which follows the same structure as the EPS but focuses on industrial design, has been launched in the 2011–2012 academic year. In addition, the School has international mobility agreements with some 15 European universities.

The Vilanova i la Geltrú Campus hosts the Vilanova i la Geltrú Technology Centre and Neàpolis, two facilities for the promotion of industrial innovation in the region that serve to channel the School’s research, development and technology transfer. The Campus also features the largest library in the city, a hall of residence, a photocopying service, an optician’s and a computer shop.

Sustainability, the environment and equal opportunities have concerned the School throughout its history, Examples of this concern are the UPC’s Accessibility Chair and Applied Bioacoustics Laboratory, both of which are located on the Campus. All of this has made the UPC’s Vilanova i la Geltrú Campus a point of reference that is fully equipped to educate the engineers of the future.
