The Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy participates in technology transfer and innovation projects implemented by the Catalan Plastics Centre (CCP), the Manresa Technology Centre (CTM), the Light Alloys and Surface Treatment Design Centre (CDAL), the Vilanova i la Geltrú Technology Centre (CTVG), the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre (CREB) and the Structural Integrity and Materials Reliability Centre (CIEFMA). It has several laboratories that are involved in research into biomechanics and biomaterials, plastic materials, electronic microscopy and metallurgy technology, and it runs a fatigue and fracture materials service.
