The Department of Structural Architecture is made up of the Structures Division and the Mathematics and Computer Science Division. The Structures Division has created computer designs for the ongoing building work on the Sagrada Família and the restoration of the attic of Casa Milà, and it has carried out an analysis of Torre Bellesguard. Members of staff from this division have also worked on the structural design of new buildings, including the UPC library, and the restoration of the Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house.
The Mathematics and Computer Science Division carries out research in geometry applied to architecture, the application of fuzzy mathematics to artificial intelligence (in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute), functional equations, mathematics teaching and the parametric representation of curves and surfaces.
