An increasing amount of research is being conducted at the Department of Transport and Regional Planning’s Transport Laboratory and the Civil Engineering Laboratory, which work in the fields of regional and urban planning, municipal engineering and railways. The Department’s research is backed by private organisations and public institutions. For example, the Centre for Innovation in Transport (CENIT) was created in collaboration with the Catalan government; the Abertis Chair of Transport Infrastructure Management was possible thanks to funding from ACES; and a research project on recycling materials for road paving was set up within the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Union.
