The research lines followed at the Department of Applied Mathematics I are control systems theory, the cohomology of algebraic varieties, partial differential equations, dynamic systems (celestial mechanics, in particular) and the history of science and technology. Its research groups collaborate with a number of other research groups in Catalonia and elsewhere. These research activities are funded by several national organisations, as well as by the European Union and NATO. MA1 has two high-performance parallel computing clusters (Eixam and Maya), which are made up of a network of interconnected personal computers.
