The research activity at the Department of Applied Mathematics III is divided into a number of research lines, including numerical methods and statistical modelling. It is also involved in control theory and its applications, and atomic computer simulation in materials science. The research undertaken by the Department has received a quality award from the Catalan government. Department members have published over 50 papers in national and international journals and organise and participate in conferences. The Department has a Numerical Calculus Laboratory (LaCàN), whose research group is actively engaged in research related to computer methods in applied sciences and engineering.
