The Department of Optics and Optometry has set aside a whole building for research, which houses laboratories devoted to optical and digital processing and colorimetry, anatomy and histology, optical microscopy, microbiology, optometry, contact lenses and visual neurophysiology, and the University Vision Clinic. The research carried out includes technology transfer to industry and covers several fields: optical engineering, image, vision and colour, clinical optometry and contactology and applied microbiology. The Department is also involved in development cooperation projects through the NGO Optics pel Món (OxO) and the UNESCO Chair of Vision and Development.
