The Department of Strength of Materials and Structural Engineering carries out projects related to the numerical simulation of industrial processes in metallurgy (sheet shaping, forging, lamination, smelting, mould filling, powder metallurgy, etc.), car crash and impact problems, and the analysis of lightweight steel structures. It is actively involved in organising international conferences, such as the Seventh International Conference on Computational Plasticity (COMPLAS 2003) and Structural Membranes 2003, and it participates in research projects funded by the European Union.
