The Department of Telematics Engineering has eight teaching and research laboratories, which are devoted to fields such as the design of telematics systems, networks and data communications, telematics services and communications software, and systems simulation. On the Baix Llobregat Campus, it has two research laboratories that work in the fields of mobility and broadband networks.

The Department also participates in technology transfer through European projects and institutional and private projects. The most important EU projects are Ubisec, Emily, Elin, Internet for GIS, Candle, Internode, Mediasite and RIU. It also collaborates with companies such as Afeisa, Airtel, Alcatel, Al-pi, INDRA, Seat, Telefónica I+D, Tradia and XFERA, and with consortia such as I2CAT.
