Research at the Department of Electronic Engineering is divided into four areas: microelectronic design and digital systems; electronic power systems; instrumentation and bioengineering; and semiconductor devices. The Department has 17 research laboratories located on various campuses (the Semiconductor Technology Laboratory and the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory are two of its most important facilities).
Financial support for research is provided by the Catalan government’s Directorate General for Research (DGR), the Interministerial Commission for Science and Technology (CICYT), the European Union and the private sector. The Department works with two specific research centres and has an associate unit at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In addition, three of its research centres belong to the Technological Innovation Network (CIDEM).
