Miquel Soriano has an undergraduate degree (1992) and a doctoral degree (1996) in Telecommunications Engineering from the UPC. He has been a full professor at the Department of Network Engineering since 2007. He is affiliated with the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB) and has been affiliated with the Castelldefels School of Technology (currently the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering, EETAC), the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB) and the Vilanova i la Geltrú School of Engineering (EPSEVG).

As a researcher he is part of the Information Security Group (ISG). He has authored or co-authored over 70 publications in indexed journals and more than 150 conference papers. He has supervised six doctoral theses and is the co-author of four patents. He has been a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 2002 and is part of the editorial committee of various international journals in his field. He has acted as the general chair and the programme chair at international conferences in the field of information security. He has participated in 34 national and European competitive research projects and a number of technology transfer contracts. He was the assistant coordinator of the National Quality and Futures Studies Agency (ANEP) from 2009 to 2013, and he regularly evaluates calls for research projects funded by the European Union.

In the area of management, he was the secretary of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Telematics (1996-2000), the assistant director of Corporate Relations at the ETSETB (2000-2006), the director of the Department of Network Engineering (2006-2012) and the vice-rector for Academic Staff (2013-2017 and 2018-2020).
