Ideas

The Ideas programme was created under FP7 to support excellent scientist and frontier research. This programme funds high risk research of individual research teams and it is open to all research areas.

The funding schemes under this programme are:


  • Starting Grants: This scheme is open to excellent researchers who are starting their own independent research team or independent research programme. Applicants should be researchers of any nationality with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD (or equivalent degree) and scientific track record showing great promise.
  • Consolidator Grants: This scheme is open to excellent researchers who are consolidating their own independent research team or independent research programme. Applicants should be researchers of any nationality with 7-12 years of experience since completion of PhD (or equivalent degree) and scientific track record showing great promise.
  • Advanced Grant: This scheme is open to researchers of any nationality, any age. Applicants must be scientifically independent and have a recent research track-record and profile which identifies them as leaders in their respective field(s) of research.

For all these funding schemes:

  • Bottom-up approach
  • Evaluation criteria is scientific excellence -The host Institution should be a public or private research organisation located in one of the EU Member States or Associated Countries
  • The grant funds 100 % of direct elegible costs and 20% of direct elegible cost (excluiding subcontracting) as indirect costs.
  • The maximum amount per grant is up to 2 milion € for Starting Grants, up to 2.75 milion for Consolidator Grants and 3.5 milion € for Advanced Grants.
  • The duration of the projects is up to 5 years.
