On the occasion of the day of women and science, UPC organizes THE GENDER IN RESEARCH training day, within the framework of H2020 GEECCO project.

The European GEECCO project ('Gender Equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment') aims to increase the presence of women in the world of science and technology, engineering and mathematics. For this reason, it is planned to implement actions that eliminate the barriers to hire, maintain and promote the researchers and include gender equality in the programs of studies.
On the occasion of the day of women and science, UPC organizes THE GENDER IN RESEARCH training day, within the framework of H2020 GEECCO project.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) has organized the workshop dedicated to gender in research, which  takes place on Febraury, 15th at Campus Nord of Barcelona. This activity is addressed to UPC staff involved in the implementation of gender equality measures. The workshop will be given by Maxime Forest, is a senior researcher and a scientific coordinator of the EU-funded EGERA project as well as member of Yellow Window consultancy, which is a member of the consortium of the GEECCO project. His research interests include the making and implementation of gender equality policies and strategies at the EU, national, sub-national and organizational level. During the workshop he will show the benefits of the implementation of gender equality through the analysis of several success stories. Likewise, the measures to make gender equality a reality will be explained.

According to data from the Planning, Evaluation and Quality Office and from the Women Report 2015, referring to 2014-2015 academic year, the percentage of professorship was 8% of women in all areas. The difference in also remarkable with reference to men and women hired as teaching and research staff during the same period: 608 women, representing 24% of the total, compared to 1,894 men (76%).

The participation of UPC to the GEECCO project is coordinated by the researcher Amaia Lusa, from the Department of Business Organization. The project will be used to achieve the goals set out in the III Gender Equality Plan of the UPC, in force during the period 2016-2020 and, in particular, to implement gender equality policies in the decision-making processes, the promotion of the research career and the teaching and research activities at the University
