A spin-off is a company issued from an investigation group, from a university or research center. In this way, the spin-off team (most of the time an involved researcher entrepreneur) specifically uses the research generated by the investigation group on a commercial level.

We strengthen the technology transfer and the entrepreneurial capacity of the university community members.
This knowledge transfer is constructed through a technology transfer contract, in order to economically use the R&D results obtained from investigation projects.

In order to boost the entrepreneurial capacity of the university community members, we encourage the creation of technology-based companies, and the participation in these companies' capital.
From the UPC Innovation Management Service and the UPC Control Management Service, we realize a follow up of the participated companies, providing the following services:
- Accounting and financial audit of the technology-based companies.
- UPC representation during the spin-off’s business partners meetings and administration boards meetings, realizing a follow up of the corporate operations and a control of the transactions with the UPC.
- Corporate operations follow up and management: fusions, splits up, liquidations.
- Accompaniment of the companies in the search for new partners and investors.
