U-Multirank

This ranking is a European Commission initiative, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme and developed by a consortium led by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany, the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente and the Center for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University, both of which are in the Netherlands. From the 2018 edition onwards, the economic contributions of two new sponsors, the Bertelsmann Foundation in Germany and the Santander Group in Spain, have been incorporated. The sponsors also participate in the new governance model.

After an initial pilot test, U-Multirank was launched publicly in 2014.

The Fundación CYD participates in gathering data on the Spanish university system, and then uses some of the indicators to draw up its own ranking, which is focused exclusively on Spanish institutions.

Apart from a general analysis of the institutions, U-Multirank provides information on a series of subject areas, which increase in number every year.

U-Multirank aims to provide a multidimensional view of institutions based on a large set of indicators, grouped into five main areas: Teaching and Learning, Research, Knowledge Transfer, International Orientation and Regional Engagement.

Much of the information is requested directly from the institutions or is obtained from the Integrated System for University Information (SIIU, managed by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, MECD) in the case of Spanish institutions. The sources of bibliometric indicators are Clarivate Analytics and Web of Science databases, among others.
