COVID-19, Information about TIE renewal procedure : automatic extensions and deadlines resumed

The official order SND 421/2020  has been published in the “Boletín Oficial del Estado” (BOE). With this order, all TIE cards that expired during the State of Alarm* or during the 90 calendar days prior to its declaration are automatically extended until 6 months later**.

Also, in this order is indicated the possibility of re-entry in Spain with the expired TIE card. It is, if you went to your country but your TIE card has expired and you want to return, you can do it with your valid passport and the expired TIE card (without the need or applying for a new visa), and you could start your TIE renewal procedure when you arrive again in Spain.

Apart from this, another order in the BOE of RD 463/2020 indicates that on 1st June deadlines for administrative procedures will resume. (Like, for example, you received an official notification of request, “requerimiento”, from the legal authorities, asking you for additional documents, or if you were denied and you want to submit an appeal, etc.)

For all this, if you had NOT started your TIE renewal procedure yet:

(day/month/year)

Consequence

Additional comments

Between 15/12/2019 and 07/06/2020

The situation described in the official order applies.

My TIE card is automatically extended until December 7, 2020. **

Thus, I would not be in a hurry to start my TIE renewal process. I could start my TIE renewal in November.

After 07/06/2020

The situation described in the official order does not apply.

My TIE card expires in the same date that is indicated on the card.

I have to start my TIE renewal procedure when it corresponds, in due time.

More information about TIE renewal here.

(Notes:
*: The alarm state started on 14th March.
**: And it has been extended for now until 7th June. If it was extended beyond this date, then these dates would change according to the calculation indicated in the BOE.)

In case that YES, you had already started your TIE renewal procedure: the automatic extension does not apply.

- If you were waiting for the answer of the legal authorities (and your case had not been resolved yet):
The extensions of the official order are not applied to you. The procedure will continue and you will get an answer soon.
Attention: If you had received an official request from the legal authorities, asking you for further documents (a “requerimiento”), from 1st June continues the period that you had in order to provide what was missing.

-If your request of TIE renewal had been recently resolved:
If it had been approved, what is valid is what is the period conceded in the letter of approval that you have. The case of automatic extensions described in this official order does not apply to you.
