UNESCO Chair of Numerical Methods in Engineering
The essential aims of the Chair, which began to operate on 5 October 1989 within the framework of an agreement between Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. BarcelonaTech (UPC) and UNESCO, are to promote training, research and technology transfer in the area of numerical methods and their applications in all branches of engineering. Some examples of these applications can be found in structural analysis, the study of problems involving soil mechanics and the environment, the aerodynamic analysis of aircraft, spacecraft and high-speed trains, the improvement of shaping methods in manufacturing, the study of the hydrodynamics of ships, and car crash analysis, among others.
