INTEXTER participates in a key European report for the sustainable future of the textile sector
INTEXTER–UPC has taken part in the European project FEA‑VEE (Fashion Earth Alliance – Vocational Excellence and Enterprise), an initiative funded by the Erasmus+ programme that aims to prepare the fashion and textile sector for the major changes already underway: sustainability, digitalisation and new European regulations.
As a final outcome of the project, the FEA‑VEE Policy Report (D6.4) has been published. This document gathers the experience accumulated over four years of joint work between research centres, universities, vocational training centres, companies and sector organisations from six European countries, including Spain.
The report clearly explains what the textile sector needs to consider in the coming years:
- Which new professional skills will be required,
- How new European regulations will impact the sector (such as ecodesign, traceability and the future Digital Product Passport),
- And the key role that vocational and higher education will play in ensuring a more competitive and sustainable industry.
In this context, INTEXTER–UPC has played a significant role within the project, particularly in knowledge transfer and applied training. The Institute hosted in Terrassa one of the project’s main international study visits, bringing together participants from across Europe. The programme combined technical sessions, visits to companies and leading centres, and an ecodesign hackathon focused on material reuse, circularity and innovation in textile design.
One of the main conclusions of the report is that the transition to a more sustainable textile sector will not be possible without training aligned with industrial reality. Therefore, FEA‑VEE proposes a stable collaboration model between education, industry and public administrations, aligned with the European Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) initiative, which could also be applied at regional and national levels.
The FEA‑VEE Policy Report is primarily aimed at policymakers, but it is also a valuable tool for companies, educators, students and professionals who want to understand where the sector is heading and how to prepare for upcoming challenges.
