Introduction

The subject is based on the reuse and reprogramming of buildings, as well as on the recovery of abandoned sites, through new buildings or wider proposals and their influence on urban and territorial renewal; considering these as a fundamental aspect of sustainability and ecology.

We will focus on the study of several practical cases (Small scale: Transformation of housing on different real estate platforms, Intermediate scale: architectural competitions representative for the city of Barcelona up to the present day, Gran Scala: Recovery of deprogrammed buildings in the port of Mahón), focusing on the selection of the most important variables involved and on the proposal of re-use of buildings and the modification of their environment.

The study resources most used by architects, the analysis of information obtained through the image and the graphic information, will become our reading board. The works will teach to look, thoroughly and actively, in a reproductive and critical way, and, above all, to modify and propose viable solutions for the improvement of habitability and architectural conditions. The aim is to turn the examples into suggestions and models.
