THE Impact Rankings

Times Higher Education started publishing the THE Impact Rankings in 2019, with the aim of measuring universities' success in delivering on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

These rankings comprise two types of lists:

  • Overall list: calculated by combining a university’s score in SDG 17 with its top three scores out of the remaining goals. That is, universities are scored based on a common and a variable part.
  • Specific lists: a list for each individual SDG, which ranks the universities that have participated in that goal.

To participate in the ranking, they must provide evidence of their activities in SDG 17 and at least three other SDGs. Universities can nevertheless provide data on as many SDGs as they wish, and thus they can get an overview of their performance on each goal.
