2020 edition of ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects published

The UPC is the top Spanish university in seven classifications

The ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects lists the world’s top institutions in 54 disciplines. It analyses five indicators focused on research and international recognition of academic staff. 

Institutions must have a minimum number of publications in Web of Science for the 2014-2018 period, which ranges from 25 to 300 publications depending on the area. The number of institutions ranked varies depending on the list, from a minimum of 50 up to a maximum of 500. In the 2020 edition, more than 4,000 universities have made it onto one or more lists of the Ranking.

The UPC is ranked in 23 lists, and in eight of them it is ranked among the world’s 100 best universities: Instruments Science and Technology (42nd), Water Resources (51-75 band), Remote Sensing (51-75 band), Civil Engineering (51-75 band), Mathematics (76-100 band), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (76-100 band), Telecommunication Engineering (76-100 band) and Transportation Science and Technology (76-100 band). 

In addition, it has or shares the first position among Spanish universities in seven lists: Telecommunication Engineering (1st), Instruments Science and Technology (1st), Water Resources (1st), Transportation Science and Technology (1st), Metallurgical Engineering (1st-2nd), Mathematics (1st-3rd) and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (1st-3rd).
