A monolingual corpus (pl corpora) is a collection of texts that can be used to find how words and expressions are used in context. Bilingual corpora are collections of translated texts that can be used to find translations of words and expressions.

    An online corpus of British and American university websites.

  • British National Corpus
    The British National Corpus is a collection of samples of written and spoken language from a wide range of sources, designed to represent a cross-section of British English, both spoken and written, from the late twentieth century. It contains 100 million words.

  • Business Letter Corpus
    Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan has created a corpus that can help you write letters. To try it, type the word "attend" in the search box to see how this word is used in context. Then type in the word "assist" and compare the results.

  • Linguee
    A site offering bilingual corpora in several language combinations. Type in words and expressions in Spanish to find possible translations in English. Linguee also works as a dictionary.
