The Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) is the largest and most reputed school of Engineering, Science and Technology and Architecture in Portugal. Since its creation in 1911, IST’s mission is to provide top quality higher education, as well as to develop Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) activities according to the highest international standards.
IST is home to more than 1,000 doctoral researchers and about 10,000 students with about 40% involved in graduate studies (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) often involved in challenging research projects in one of IST's 30 R&D units.
As part of its strategic policy, IST is actively involved in several networks and international programmes (CLUSTER, CESAER, TIME, ATHENS and MAGALHÃES) to promote student mobility, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as internships for participating in IST’s research activities.
Under these mobility programmes, IST celebrated different bilateral agreements with European and Non-European universities. In the framework of the ERASMUS programme, there are nearly 200 agreements. Through a large number of agreements with other institutions worldwide, IST participates in more than 20 Dual Master programmes, and joint PhD programmes with MIT, CMU, UT-Austin and EPFL.
