The Marie Curie Actions are aimed at European researchers who wish to work in another EU member state. Candidate researchers must not be a national of the country in which they wish to implement a research project, and must not have lived, studied or worked in the country for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to the application or commencement of the research activity. This programme is aimed at the development and transfer of research competencies, the consolidation and widening of researcher career prospects, and the promotion of excellence in European research.

The main aim of the Marie Curie Actions is to create a critical mass of quality human resources. The programme is not merely available to researchers in the 7 prority areas described in the 6th Framework Programme, but is open to researchers in all fields of scientific and technological research. Multidisciplinary projects and projects that forge or strengthen links between the academic and industrial sectors are particularly encouraged.
