The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya strengthens its strategic alliance with Tongji University during an institutional visit

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) has reinforced its strong collaboration with Tongji University during a recent institutional visit by the Vice-Rector for International Policy, Professor Andreas Sumper. The meeting served to deepen academic ties and promote new areas of collaboration between both institutions.

During his stay, Professor Sumper visited the Tongji University campus and interacted directly with its academic community. One of the highlights of the visit was UPC Day, an event dedicated to celebrating the relationship between the two institutions, with the presence of Chinese ministerial authorities, representatives from the Shanghai municipality, the Spanish Embassy, and the highest representatives of Tongji University.

During the event, awards were presented to the winning projects of the Summer School 2025 Quantum City: Spatiotemporal Innovation and Creativity, in which 70 students from 12 of our university's schools participated, along with students from Tongji University and professors and tutors from that university. The jury was composed of academic staff from both universities; in the case of UPC, it included some of the 25 young professors from our university, from different areas of knowledge, who participated in an academic workshop at the Chinese university during that week.

As part of the agenda, Professor Sumper also held a working session with the team of the Sino-Spanish Campus, a strategic joint initiative that highlights shared priorities in education and research. The meeting reviewed the entire historical collaboration with UPC and put forth future proposals to further deepen and strengthen relations.

This productive visit represents a new step forward in the growing collaboration between UPC and Tongji University, laying the groundwork for future joint projects and expanding academic and research opportunities for students and staff of both institutions.
