As of this June, the price per credit for master’s degrees at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) for non-EU students, who are not nationals of EU member states and who enrol in master’s programmes, is €45 for a first-time enrolment. No distinction is made between qualifying and non-qualifying master’s programmes. Until now, the price per credit for both qualifying and non-qualifying master’s programmes stood at €102.52 for a first-time enrolment.

This tuition fee adjustment was approved by the Governing Council in its meeting of 17 June and by the Board of Trustees on 2 July. According to the decision, tuition fee support may be granted to non-resident international students who are not nationals of EU member states if stipulated in an agreement between a foreign organisation and the UPC, provided that sufficient budgetary credit exists for the corresponding budget line, and also in cases determined by the UPC’s Committee for the Evaluation and Monitoring of Grants and Financial Aid.

The decision also states that students enrolled in the UPC’s sequential academic programmes who subsequently access a master’s programme will be exempt from both the pre-enrolment fee and the advance payment for admission.

Additionally, the UPC has also reduced the credit price for undergraduate studies for non-EU students, lowering it from €42.56 to €30 for a first-time enrolment.

Who sets the fees
Tuition fees for official master’s degrees are regulated by Article 81.3.b of the Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 December, on Universities, as amended by Royal Decree-Law 14/2012, of 20 April. For programmes leading to official degrees that are valid throughout Spain, public fees and charges are set by the Government of Catalonia, within the framework established by the General University Policy Conference.

The fees for bachelor’s degrees are set by the Government of Catalonia through the annual decree on public prices. This decree allows the UPC’s Board of Trustees to establish differentiated fees for non-resident international students who are not nationals of EU member states or of countries where EU provisions apply.
