The UPC in the world’s top 25 for Architecture and top 50 for Space and Planetary Sciences, according to the Scimago World Institutions Rankings
The UPC is listed among the world’s top 25 in Architecture and top 50 in Space and Planetary Sciences, according to the Scimago World Institutions Rankings. In total, the UPC is listed among the top 100 universities worldwide in nine rankings and leads the national rankings in Spain in Engineering, Computer Science, Energy, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Architecture and Mechanical Engineering. At the institutional level, the UPC also leads Spain’s university system in innovation.

In the recently published 2025 edition of the Scimago World Institutions Rankings (SIR WUR), the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) is ranked both at the overall institutional level and in 53 area- and category-specific rankings—five more than in last year’s edition. Among these, the UPC is featured in the world’s top 100 universities in nine lists, including one top 25 and one top 50 position:
- Architecture (15th)
- Space and Planetary Sciences (47th)
- Forestry (65th)
- Mathematics (70th)
- Atmospheric Science (74th)
- Building and Construction (77th)
- Engineering (area) (78th)
- Computer Science (82nd)
- Aerospace Engineering (90th)
Number one in Spain in seven rankings
The UPC is the leader among Spanish universities in seven rankings—four more than in the previous edition: Engineering (area), Architecture, Mathematics, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Energy and Mechanical Engineering.
Number one in Ibero-America in four rankings
The University also tops the Ibero-American rankings in four of the above categories—three more than in the previous edition: Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science and Aerospace Engineering.
At the overall institutional level, the UPC leads Spain’s university system in innovation this year.
The SIR WUR analyse institutions in five sectors: government, health, universities, companies and non-profit. Institutions are assessed based on 20 indicators grouped into three major areas: research, innovation and social impact.
