Saurabh Bharat Nagarkar, a student on the master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, has won the Unite! Video Contest at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC). The competition is a proposal of the Multilingual and Multicultural Training Center of Unite!, the alliance of European universities of which the UPC is a member. Its aim was to showcase the diversity and interculturality of the Unite! student community. Students from all partner universities were challenged to show what a day at university is like for them academically, socially and personally: how they commute, what they do, what their campuses are like and so on.

A total of 28 students from 9 Unite! universities submitted their videos. The UPC selected the videos submitted by students Monica Guri Ucero, Ahmad Kamal Khan, Paula Vidiella Sánchez and Saurabh Nagarkar. Finally, Saurabh’s submission received the most votes.

He will now join the group of 20 students representing the UPC at the Unite! Student Festival, which will be held in Lisbon from 29 June to 1 July. The 2023 Unite! Student Festival is the perfect opportunity for Unite! students encouraging team building with their international colleagues, finding out what Unite! can offer, debating and sharing their ideas and expectations as European students. On the top of that, they can join outdoor and cultural activities, and visit the beautiful city of Lisbon.

Born in Lucknow and a resident of Nashik (India), Saurabh Nagarkar is a student on the master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence since September 2022. He took on the competition challenge explaining what a day at the UPC is like for him. Now that he will travel to Lisbon for the Unite! Student Festival, he explains: “Firstly, I hope to expand my network by connecting with like-minded peers from different countries and universities. The festival provides a platform for students to exchange ideas and experiences, which can offer me new insights into my field. Secondly, I am excited to participate in all the activities at the Festival and I hope to have fun and enjoy the cultural events, creating lifelong memories and forming friendships with fellow students.”

Saurabh envisions the university of the future as “a highly connected and technologically advanced institution that fosters a dynamic, interdisciplinary and collaborative learning environment. Universities will extensively integrate online learning with traditional face-to-face interactions, enabling students to access resources and attend lectures from anywhere in the world.”

He also thinks that the university will have to “emphasize real-world applications, providing students with numerous opportunities for internships, research and practical projects. This will help bridge the gap between academia and industry, better preparing students for the real world. Lastly, I expect sustainability and social responsibility, encouraging students to tackle global challenges through innovation and problem solving.”
