The UPC, Spain’s leading university in six classifications in the 2025–2026 Best Global Universities Rankings by ‘U.S. News’

Published by U.S. News on 17 June, the latest edition of the Best Global Universities Rankings positions the UPC as Spain’s top university in Engineering and in five subjects: Optics, Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - BarcelonaTech (UPC) remains one of the top Spanish universities in the 2025–2026 Best Global Universities Rankings, published on 17 June. 

In this edition, the UPC is the leading Spanish university in Engineering and in five subject rankings: Optics, Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

Considering institutions’ overall results, the UPC is ranked 457th in the world, 173rd in Europe and 9th in Spain.

In the subject rankings, the UPC is among the world’s top 100 universities in Optics (62nd) and in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences (79th). It is also among the top 200 in Civil Engineering (160th), in Physics (171st), in Computer Science (179th), in the field of Engineering (195th), in Green and Sustainable Science and Technology (197th) and in Condensed Matter Physics (198th).

Best indicators in Optics and Physics
In terms of performance by indicator, the UPC achieves its best global results in Optics, with 67.5 points out of 100, followed by Physics, with 62.2 points.

It is also ranked in the global top 50 in the following indicators:

  • In regional research reputation: 14th in Computer Science and 31st in the field of Engineering.
  • In conference proceedings: 11th in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences, 20th in Civil Engineering, 22nd in Environmental Engineering, 33rd in Optics and 44th in Green and Sustainable Science and Technology.
  • In international collaboration, relative to country: 19th in Social Sciences and Public Health, 31st in Civil Engineering and 41st in Green and Sustainable Science and Technology.
  • In international collaboration: 14th in Optics, 34th in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences and 47th in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
