Institutes and research centres
The research activity, both basic and applied, carried out at UPC institutes and research centres, places it at the forefront of innovation, research and technological development. These units promote a culture of research, innovation and entrepreneurship and weave their knowledge network with researchers and research groups worldwide.
Research institutes
At the UPC there are seven of its own university research institutes and one affiliated research institute, dedicated to scientific and technical research in a specific field of knowledge. There are also two joint research institutes and two inter-university ones.

Research centres
They cater to demands from external public or private entities in specific fields of research. Some belong to the Network of Support Centres for Technological Innovation (TECNIO), formed by public and private technological centres of recognised excellence.
