The definitions of the mission and vision of the UPC were approved by the Governing Council on 26 April after a process of collective reflection and internal work. This is the starting point of the Galàxia Aprenentatge project, which should lead to a proposal to transform the learning experience at the UPC, as presented to the Senate on 7 October 2022. It aims to develop a new teaching model with three premises: improving the learning experience and satisfaction, increasing academic performance and reducing the dropout rate.

The process of collective reflection involved a work group gathering the opinion of the community on the mission and vision of the UPC in general, but also on its teaching objective. The approved proposal also includes several amendments proposed at the Governing Council meeting of 21 February.

The conceptual description of the mission and vision is the following:

The mission of the UPC:

To contribute to building a sustainable and fair world through research, technology transfer and knowledge dissemination and by producing engineering, architecture, science and technology graduates who are able to think critically, work in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams, adapt to change and keep learning throughout their lives.

The vision of the UPC:

The UPC, a Catalan public university that is both territorially embedded and an international benchmark, serves society, works for inclusion and instils a strong sense of duty, ethical values, intellectual rigour and a commitment to building a sustainable and fair world; it promotes the most appropriate teaching-learning methods for each educational setting and transfers and disseminates the knowledge generated through research to society. As UPC students, staff and alumni, we aspire to form a lifelong community that is alive, dynamic, egalitarian and collaborative.
