The 2020 edition of the Times Higher Education’s University Impact Rankings was published on 22 April. The Rankings assess the impact of universities against the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the 2020 edition, the publishers analyse 17 SDGs, while in the first edition last year they analysed only 11 out of the 17 SDGs.

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) achieves the best results in SDG 9, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructures; SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy; and SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities. It achieves therefore the highest scores in the abovementioned goals: SDG 9 (76.8 points out of 100), SDG 7 (72.6 points) and SDG 11 (70.1 points).

The THE Impact Rankings comprise two types of lists: the overall list, which is calculated by combining a university’s score in SDG 17 with its top three scores out of the remaining goals, that is, universities are scored based on a common and a variable part; and a list for each individual SDG, which ranks the universities that have participated in that particular goal.
