The UPC scores well in Computer Science and Engineering in the 2019 Best Global Universities Rankings

In the fifth edition of the Best Global Universities Rankings, also known as the US News Rankings, the UPC is 36th in the world in Computer Science and 60th in Engineering. In the global ranking, the UPC is among the top 500 in the world.

The Best Global Universities Rankings, published by US News & World Report and managed by Clarivate Analytics, takes into account a whole series of indicators linked to the research and reputation of 1,250 higher education institutions. It includes a global ranking and subject rankings, in which the number of ranked institutions varies according to the volume of publications in the Web of Science in the period 2012-2016.

In the global ranking, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is 448th of the 1,250 ranked universities, 202nd of the 499 European institutions, and the top technical university in Spain. In the subject rankings, in Computer Science the UPC is 36th of the 200 ranked institutions and 6th in Europe. In Engineering, it is 60th of the 600 ranked institutions and 13th in Europe. In both subjects, the UPC is also the top institution in Spain.

It also scored well in Mathematics, ranking 134th of the 200 ranked institutions in the world, 58th in Europe and the top technical university in Spain. It was also ranked in Materials Science (203rd in the world and the top technical university in Spain), Chemistry (466th), Physics (534th) and, for the first time, Environment/Ecology (387th).

Most valued for its reputation in Europe
In the indicator rankings, in Computer Science the UPC rose to 6th place in the regional reputation surveys of European academics and was placed 26th in Engineering. It also improved its position in six indicators in Computer Science and six indicators in Mathematics.

Clarivate Analytics obtains the reputation indicators for the Best Global University Rankings from the survey of academics who have publications listed in its databases. The indicator takes into account the geographic distribution of the researchers in both obtaining the sample and calculating the results, which cover the last five years.
