The European University in Egypt (EUE) was created with the aim of bringing together the knowledge of prestigious international universities to create a new university in the future capital of Egypt, which is being built 50 kilometres east of Cairo. Through agreements with international universities, the EUE wishes to offer bachelor’s and master's programmes in several disciplines, including architecture.

The EUE contacted the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), as an international benchmark in architecture, to request advice on the implementation of architecture studies at the new university The agreement seeks to lay the foundations for this possible collaboration between the two institutions, through which the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB) will advise on the creation of the EUE’s School of Architecture. The project, funded by the EUE, would represent the involvement of the ETSAB in establishing the teaching structure of the studies and the quality assurance systems. The UPC would also participate in the selection of the teaching staff and jointly organise mobility stays for professors of the ETSAB to lecture at the EUE. Through this agreement, the two parties will work to establish the most appropriate formula for implementing the project.
