Biography

Elena Fernández is an associate professor at the Department of Architectural Design. She has undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Architecture from the UPC. She teaches at the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB).

She currently coordinates and teaches the subjects Design V and Design VI in the fourth year of the bachelor’s degree in Architecture. She also directs the Project, Process and Programming (PPP) line of the master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Architecture-Barcelona (MBArch), for which she also teaches and co-directs the seminar on master’s theses. Given these academic affiliations, she chairs an examination committee on bachelor’s theses in the Design and Theory area and is part of an examination committee on final theses related to the Environmental Emergency line.
She is a member of the ARIENS group, which focuses on generating applied knowledge by exploring synergies between complementary disciplines, such as architecture and engineering or architecture and industry, and the relationship between the architectural work and the social rationale for technology. From 2010 to 2015, in the publishing sphere, she was a member of the editorial board of the journal Documents de Projectes d’Arquitectura (DPA).
She was the academic secretary of the Department of Architectural Design (2010-2015), the assistant director of the same department (2015-2017) and the assistant director of the Barcelona School of Architecture (2017-2021).
