The 12 libraries of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) have redesigned Bibliotècnica, the UPC’s digital library, and the individual library websites.

The new sites follow the design of the UPC’s website, offer simpler and more intuitive browsing and are responsive to computers, tablets and mobile phones.

An important new feature of Bibliotècnica, managed by the UPC’s Libraries, Publications and Archives Service, is the individualised presentation of the services and resources through profiles for students, teachers, researchers, administrative staff, doctoral students and new students. Another new feature, the DiscoveryUPC tool, can be used to search for books, articles and other resources in the vast majority of databases to which the UPC is subscribed. It can also be used to search the entire catalogue of Bibliotècnica and UPCommons, the institutional repository.

The most frequent demands in three languages
The new website is available in Catalan, Spanish and English, with quick access to the most demanded information and services, such as booking rooms, library opening hours and access to the catalogue. It also has a prominent section of current news in three languages on library services, open knowledge and support to researchers.

Much visibility is given to information related to research, such as the profiles of researchers, the FUTUR portal, UPCommons, the Data Management Plan, bibliometric indicators and accreditations. The resources supporting the publication of research by the University include access to the Mendeley reference management software, intellectual property, open access, open research data, institutional signatures and affiliation.

Design and functionality improvements have also been made to the reading lists of the course guides for the subjects of the bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees for the 2018-2019 academic year and to New acquisitions.
