UPC students hunt muons in stratosphere to test theory of relativity Within the framework of the European REXUS/BEXUS programme, a group of five students from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) has been selected to design and carry out an experiment in the stratosphere with the aim of testing Einstein’s special theory of relativity. The experiment will involve studying muons, elementary particles present in the atmosphere. The team is the youngest one participating in the programme (and the only one from Spain). Contributions to help fund the project can be made until 8 June at http://igg.me/at/gocadmus.

UPC maintains position among world’s best 150 universities under 50 according to THE ranking The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) has maintained its position in the 101-150 range of the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings. Within Europe, it is ranked in the 60-86 range, and in Spain, in the 5-7 range.

Un nou sistema estadístic mostra que en només cinc dies es pot recollir gairebé tota la informació obtinguda a l’any sobre l’evolució de pacients amb ictus tractats amb trombectomia Un equip d'investigadors de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) ha contribuït, juntament amb la Universitat de Pittsburgh i sis hospitals catalans, en una recerca pionera en l’àmbit internacional que ha demostrat l’eficàcia i els beneficis a llarg termini del tractament d’ictus amb microcatèters. A la UPC s'ha dissenyat una anàlisi estadística seqüencial que ha permès establir els efectes de la intervenció i quantificar que el 80% dels efectes observats després d’un any de tractament es poden registrar en només cinc dies.

UPC among world’s top 10 universities in three scientific categories according to CWUR Rankings by Subject In the CWUR Rankings by Subject, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is rated the fourth best university in the world, and first in Europe, in two categories: Multidisciplinary Engineering and Interdisciplinary Applications of Mathematics. It also ranks ninth in Europe, and fourth among European universities, in Construction and Building Technology. The UPC is the only Spanish university included in the rankings for these three categories.

Two crews of the Barcelona School of Nautical Studies are taking part in the EDHEC 2017 international sailing regatta From 31 March to 8 April, a female and a male crew of the Barcelona School of Nautical Studies (FNB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) will compete in the 2017 edition of the Course Croisière EDHEC international university regatta, which is held annually in Brittany. A total of 3,000 students from 165 universities will take part on board 180 sailing boats.
